Freedom of Information Act requests

The Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) gives the public the right to access government records. You may submit a FOIA request to the Plainfield Fire Protection District using the form below. The District will not open emailed attachments or visit third-party websites for cybersecurity reasons.

Requests must be specific enough for the District to identify the records being sought. Include relevant dates, locations, incident numbers, names, or subjects when possible.

What to Know

Before you submit

What You Can Request

FOIA covers records maintained by the District including reports, correspondence, financial records, policies, meeting minutes, and other public documents. You do not need to state a reason for your request.

Be as specific as possible — include dates, incident numbers, addresses, names, or subjects to help staff locate the correct records.

Fees & Response Time

The District has 5 business days to respond to a FOIA request, with a possible 5-business-day extension for requests that are voluminous or require consultation.

The first 50 pages of black-and-white letter/legal copies are free. Additional copies may be charged at the actual cost of reproduction. Fees must be paid before copies are provided.

Inspect vs. Receive Copies

You may choose to inspect records in person at the PFPD Administrative Office during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.), or request that copies be mailed or provided electronically.

Indicate your preference in the form below.

Commercial Purpose

Illinois law requires requestors to disclose whether the records will be used for sale, resale, solicitation, or advertisement. The form below includes this question — please answer accurately.

Requests for a commercial purpose may be subject to different response timelines under the Act.
