Ambulance Ordinances
Ambulance fees & ordinances
The Plainfield Fire Protection District provides emergency medical services — including ambulance transport — through all four stations, staffed 24/7 by licensed Firefighter/Paramedics. The District charges fees for ambulance transport, non-transport treatment, lift assists, and related services to help offset the cost of maintaining this level of care.
Fees are established by Board of Trustees ordinance and are billed through the District's third-party billing partner, EMS|MC. Most insurance plans, Medicare, and Medicaid are accepted. If you received a bill, see the billing information section below.

Ambulance & EMS ordinances
The ordinances below establish the District's authority to charge for emergency medical services and define the fee schedule, lift assist program, and related charges.
Ambulance Fee Ordinance
Re-establishes ambulance and related charges for the Plainfield Fire Protection District. Sets the base fee schedule for BLS, ALS, and ALS full code transport, non-transport treatment, mileage, and supplies. Includes an automatic annual escalation clause effective each January 1st beginning in 2023. Supersedes the prior fee ordinance (16-0823).
Lift Assist / Citizen Assist Charges
Amends Section 7 of the Ambulance Fee Ordinance (22-0510) to establish charges for lift assist and citizen assist responses. These are non-emergency calls where fire/EMS personnel respond to help a person — such as assisting someone who has fallen — without transport or advanced medical treatment.
Lift Assist Ordinance
Updates the District's lift assist program and related provisions. This ordinance defines the scope of lift assist services, establishes the current fee structure, and outlines operational guidelines for non-emergency lift assist and citizen assist responses provided by District personnel.
Received a bill?
PFPD contracts with EMS|MC (EMS Management & Consultants) to handle all ambulance billing. If you have questions about a bill, need to provide insurance information, or want to make a payment, contact EMS|MC directly.
I just got a bill — what do I do?
If you have health insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid, provide your coverage information to EMS|MC so they can file a claim on your behalf. You can submit insurance details through the EMS|MC Patient Portal or by calling their patient service line.
If your insurance pays a portion of the bill, EMS|MC will send a revised statement for any remaining balance.
How do I pay my bill?
Payments can be made online through the EMS|MC Patient Portal or by calling EMS|MC's patient service team. The portal also allows you to view your account, upload insurance card information, and check payment status.
Does insurance cover ambulance transport?
Most health insurance plans, Medicare, and Medicaid cover medically necessary ambulance transport. Coverage varies by plan, and your insurance company determines what is reimbursable. PFPD and EMS|MC will file the claim — you don't need prior authorization for emergency 911 transport.
How do I get a copy of my ambulance report?
You can request a copy of your Patient Care Report (PCR) by submitting a signed authorization and photo ID in person, by mail, or by email. See the full process and requirements on the Obtaining Ambulance Reports page.
