Fire Prevention Code

Ordinance 25-0613
Adopted: June 13, 2025 PDF (scanned)

This ordinance adopts the International Fire Code (IFC), 2021 Edition, as the fire prevention and protection code for the Plainfield Fire Protection District. It establishes the legal authority of the Fire Marshal and Prevention Bureau to conduct inspections, review plans, issue permits, and enforce fire and life-safety standards across all occupancies within the District.

Local amendments to the base IFC — including District-specific administrative provisions, fee schedules, and any modified or deleted sections — are incorporated within the ordinance. This ordinance supersedes all previously adopted fire prevention codes for the District.

False Fire Alarm Ordinance

Ordinance 07-0612
Adopted: June 12, 2007 PDF (scanned)

Establishes the District's policy for responding to and penalizing false fire alarms. The ordinance defines what constitutes a false alarm, requires alarm system registration for monitored properties, and sets escalating fees for repeat false activations at the same premises.

The purpose is to reduce unnecessary fire department responses that divert resources from genuine emergencies. Property owners and alarm monitoring companies should review this ordinance to understand registration requirements and the fee schedule for excessive false alarms.

Fire Alarm Direct-Connect Ordinance

Ordinance 16-1024A
Adopted: October 24, 2016 PDF (scanned)

Requires fire alarm systems within the District to be directly connected to the dispatch center, ensuring alarm signals are transmitted without reliance on a third-party monitoring relay. The ordinance specifies which occupancies are subject to the direct-connect requirement, the approved connection methods, and the responsibilities of the building owner and alarm contractor.

This ordinance applies primarily to commercial, institutional, and multi-family properties with required fire alarm systems. Alarm contractors and vendors operating within PFPD's jurisdiction should review the technical requirements for compliant installations.
